One of the many, many (did we say many?) episodes of Star Trek: Voyager to feature the Borg, Season 6’s Survival Instinct focuses on members of Seven of Nine’s Unimatrix that crash landed with her on a random planet a few years prior to the events of the episode. These now ex-Borg are desperate to find a way of delinking themselves from the mini-collective they were forced to form by Seven, and now require Seven to help them undo it. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Liam Smart are joined by Christopher D Littlefield for a commentary on Season 6 Episode 2, Survival Instinct. "The Cloud" Commentary. When Voyager is in serious danger of running out of replicator resources (and Captain Janeway her morning coffee), Voyager changes course toward a resource-rich nebula that turns out to be a vaporous spacefaring life form. Join hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling for an audio commentary on the first-season Voyager episode, "The Cloud," the origin of more than one Voyager meme, everything from Chakotay-led animal guide vision quests to holodeck pool hustling with a French twist at Chez Sandrine.

"Mortal Coil" Commentary. It's Prixmas time once again at Trek.fm! While a (mostly) dead Neelix may not be the most festive of holiday podcast topics, "Mortal Coil" is where we first learn of the Talaxian holiday Prixin. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling raise their glasses (or can, in the case of Suzanne) for a holiday salutation to ancestors and friends alike with an audio commentary on the fourth-season Voyager episode "Mortal Coil."

"False Profits" Commentary. Ferengi in the Delta Quadrant? We thought we'd seen the last of the scheming Ferengi pair Arridor and Kol when they were stranded on the other side of the unstable Barzan Wormhole in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Price." Little did we know at the time that we would get a sequel to "The Price" in the form of the third-season Voyagerepisode, "False Profits." Unsurprisingly, with the help of a salvaged replicator, Arridor and Kol have co-opted the local mythology and cornered the market on lobe-shaped costume jewelry on a pre-warp planet in the Delta Quadrant.

"Muse" Commentary. The Voyager story has always been epic in scope, with its 70-year journey home being reminiscent of Odysseus's ten-year voyage home to Ithaca after the fall of Troy in the ancient Greek epic poem, The Odyssey. With this epic scope of the Voyager story, it's no accident that Kelis, a poet and playwright from an alien society reminiscent of ancient Greece, finds creative inspiration in the mission logs from the wreckage of the Delta Flyerin the sixth-season Voyager episode "Muse." In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Suzanne Williamson and Zachary Fruhling give an audio commentary on "Muse" and explore whether the Voyager story, or perhaps Star Trekin general, really has the power to end wars and create peace through drama as inspiration and cathartic release. "Year of Hell" Commentary. The two-part episode "Year of Hell" is taken by many to be one of the highlights of season four of Star Trek: Voyager, if not of the entire Voyager series. From memorable moments with a certain replicated pocket watch to Annorax's Captain Ahab-like quest against time itself, "Year of Hell" shows the strength of the Voyager crew as a family, even in Voyager's darkest hours (the Voyager reset button aside). Switch on your temporal shielding and join hosts Kay Shaw, Zachary Fruhling, and Suzanne Williamson in this episode of To The Journey for an audio commentary on "Year of Hell," parts I and II. "Pathfinder" Commentary. Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation were treated to not just one, but two, Next Generation cast members reprising their roles in the sixth-season episode of Star Trek: Voyager, "Pathfinder": Dwight Schultz as the nervous but endearing Lieutenant Reginald Barclay, and Marina Sirtis as Counselor Deanna Troi. In this episode of To The Journey, hosts Zachary Fruhling and Kay Shaw sit down together for a "Pathfinder" audio commentary while fellow To The Journey host Suzanne Williamson is temporarily lost in some holographic fantasy along with Lieutenant Barclay and Commander Chakotay (who, coincidentally, forgoes a Starfleet uniform in favor of his Maquis leather, both in Lieutenant Barclay's holographic fantasy, and in Suzanne's). "Author, Author" Commentary. Just about any episode centered around The Doctor is likely to be entertaining. What's better than that? Well, what about an episode that's as entertaining as it is thought-provoking? Cue Voyager's "Author, Author," which aired in the last third of the seventh season. Motivated by the knowledge that EMH Mark I holograms like himself have been relegated to menial jobs, The Doctor has written "Photons Be Free," a holonovel that is loosely based on his experience aboard Voyager. But when the crew sees thinly-veiled exaggerations of themselves being portrayed in the program, they're not exactly happy. Join Tristan and Char in this episode of To The Journey as they break out the quills, the smoking jackets and the Netflix as they comment on the shenanigans that ensue as The Doctor fights for his intellectual property rights. "Resolutions" Commentary. Sometimes when things in life get tough, you've got to indulge in a little bit of comfort. For Char and Tristan, that comfort is a heaping serving of Janeway and Chakotay goodness. In this episode of To The Journey, Char and Tristan indulge in "Resolutions," the episode that drove the J/C shippers wild 20 years ago...and still does. It's got the implausible romance setup of a man and a woman alone together on a planet, a bathtub, headboards, ancient legends, and of course, a primate. All the makings of a perfect love story for two people coming from vastly different backgrounds, but slowly coming together...until Tuvok and the Voyager crew come racing back to New Earth and rip them away from all that could have been. Le sigh. Hosts Editor Producer Executive Producers Associate Producers Production Manager Send us your feedback! Support the Network! |

"Bride of Chaotica! Commentary. One of the most incredible parts of the convention experience is the cosplay, whether putting a costume together yourself or simply admiring the craftiness of others. With Star Trek Las Vegas still on their brains, Char and Tristan thought it was finally time they tackled a commentary of "Bride of Chaotica!" That way, they could talk about some of the incredible cosplay they saw at STLV that was inspired by this episode, and discuss which character(s) from Captain Proton they'd choose if they were dressing up. And, in the midst of Captain Janeway burying herself in the part of Queen Arachnia, Char and Tristan could justify talking incessantly about Kate Mulgrew's prowess — not that they need a reason for that, but a convenient segue doesn't hurt. So queue up this Voyager fan favorite and listen as Char and Tristan talk about why they appreciate this episode so much. "Endgame" Commentary. After 172 episodes over the course of seven years, Voyager finished its journey and made it home. For To The Journey, it's been three and a half years and also 172 episodes. To commemorate this milestone, Char and Tristan deemed an "Endgame" commentary as an appropriate celebration. They start out drinking tea, but promptly switch to coffee when they realize how wrong it was that they were drinking tea in the first place (that's Earl Grey's territory). Char and Tristan consider many topics during this commentary, such as the awesome prospect of how certain Voyager characters could make it on the new series set to debut in 2017. Just who do they believe really should have died in "Endgame?" Also, they discuss how the cast and crew felt as the show they worked on for seven years came to a close. And what exactly was that type of shuttlecraft, anyway? Catch this and much more in this episode of To The Journey. "Twisted" Commentary. Bottle shows aren't often highly regarded among the fans as standouts since the lack of budget is often apparent in the final cut. However, the Season Two episode "Twisted" sits among Tristan's favorites. It's a bottle show, yes, but it still has enjoyable character moments. "11:59" Commentary. For many the holiday season is a time filled with food, festivities, and family. It is also a time for reflection — to remember those before us, what has happened in the past year, and look to the future as we approach a new year. In this episode of To The Journey, Char and Tristan wax sentimental as they deliver a commentary on the Voyager Season Five episode "11:59." They reflect on their own ancestors, as well as the Janeway lineage; how Q could have made this episode better; how sometimes you can't help but live the rest of your life in the place where your car breaks down; and much more. "The Q and the Grey" Commentary. It's time to break out the Civil War costumes and take sides, because the Q Continuum is at war! Wait, what? That's right, war, conducted by an omnipotent species that has claimed it is above such barbaric acts in the past. It is issues like that (and more) that Char and Tristan point out in this episode of To The Journey, where they deliver a commentary on the Season Three episode "The Q and the Grey." But never fear, it is not all negative. Q episodes are fan favorites for a reason. The endless stream of one-liners in this episode alone makes it worth the watch. "Worst Case Scenario" Commentary. If you could go back to the start of Voyager's mission and join the crew, would you sign on as a Starfleet officer or a member of the Maquis? Would you lead in a mutiny or fight back? The crew played around with this idea when they uncovered a holonovel Tuvok created at the start of Voyager's journey home as a way of preparing for such a scenario. Now, three years later, the holonovel is less of a preparation for a real situation and more of an entertaining story for the crew. Naturally, in the midst of all the fun, the crew hits some bumps along the way thanks to Seska, the Bajoran-turned-Cardassian spy who defected to the Kazon. In this episode of To The Journey, Tristan Riddell and guest host Phillip Gilfus from Earl Grey dress into their Maquis garb and deliver a commentary on "Worst Case Scenario." "Rise" Commentary. In this episode of To The Journey, Tristan and Char deliver a commentary on the often forgotten Season Three episode "Rise." From the moment Tuvok and Neelix met in "Caretaker," it was painfully obvious how different the two characters were. Tuvok was driven by logic and discipline, as is the Vulcan way. Neelix, however, often worked on gut instinct and had no problem improvising when necessary. Naturally, these differences caused friction when they worked together, such as in this episode. Who gets the last word? Listen on and find out.

Message in a Bottle Commentary. With Char gone in the Delta Flyer, Tristan brings in his friend and Nerd Party Co-Host, Matt Hansen! This week they riff on Season 4's "Message in a Bottle" with a joyous commentary track. Andy Dick made his mark in Star Trek by being the comedic counter to our beloved Doctor. The Killing Game, Part II Commentary. Star Trek two-part episodes tend to be known for a strong first half and weak conclusion. That is not the case when it comes to "The Killing Game," the second two-parter of Voyager Season Four. Despite starting with only a quarter of an hour of material for the second half, the writers pulled this one together with a nice mix of drama, humor, social commentary, and a controversial conclusion that led to repercussions later in the series. Char and Tristan conclude their commentary of "The Killing Game" in this episode of To The Journey. Topics discussed touch on which side of the resistance they'd want to be on, Tommy's lexicon, what Jeri Ryan was contemplating on the rainy set, and Ethan Phillips' survival of Talaxian *and* Klingon makeup.

After the cast and crew poured their hearts into the epic "Year of Hell" in Voyager's fourth season, it wouldn't have surprised anyone had Voyager steered clear of two-parters for the remainder of the season. The Raven Commentary. It's a bird! Check. It's a shuttlecraft! Check. It's a… Borg? Also check. When Seven of Nine find the wreckage of small science vessel she and her parents called home before being assimilated, she begins having hallucinations that seem to be calling her back to the Collective. "The Raven" began as the story of Seven's reactivation as a drone but became one that shed light on how she was assimilated in the first place.

Real Life Commentary. No matter the situation, having a family comes with challenges. The Doctor finds this out when he creates a holographic family and plunges right into family life. In this episode of To The Journey, Char and Tristan watch as B'Elanna visits The Doctor's family and is sickened by its saccharine-sweet harmony. She reprograms the family's subroutines into something more "realistic," involving wretched Klingon music, crying kids, and life-ending injuries. Threshold Commentary. No Star Trek show is immune from its share of "stinker" episodes, but few are of such ill-repute that the writer eventually strikes them from canon. "Threshold" is such an episode, and despite its unpopular status among the masses, Char and Tristan actually enjoy watching it. And in this episode of To The Journey they do just that as well as comment, laugh, cry, lose tongues, spawn, and more. It's like they experience the entire universe in this one episode. Voyager's “Drone” fits that bill with its concise beginning, middle, and end—all in 45 satisfying minutes. In this episode of To The Journey we take on the not-oft remembered episode which introduces us to the Borg kids—"Collective." It starts with the boys playing poker and ends with Seven in new clothes! Needless to say, our discussion takes us to places you'd expect, and a few you wouldn't. Blood Fever Commentary. It’s time to roll around in the dirt in this episode of To The Journey as we watch and discuss Voyager’s legendary Pon farr episode. Vorik chooses B’Elanna as his mate, and she punishes him for it. Tommy Boy shows his creamy center as he acts like a gentleman towards the woman of his dreams. Tristan does commentary in the style of Arnold Schwarzenegger… doing commentary. Char imitates… someone. And Lorrie likes the shiny-shine costumes. Get your DVD or Netflix ready, and watch along! |
